Your input helps us to serve better.

Our teams on the ground use local knowledge to help situate the well in an area with the most need.

It can take up to a year depending on the area selected, however, our aim is to complete within 9 to 10 months, or sooner, this is from the time we receive your donation to sending you your personalised hand pump report with images.

Small Hand Pump
This is a popular choice, known for its reliability and ease of maintenance. It can lift water from a depth of up to 80 feet and is usually installed for individual families and can benefit 5 to 7 people (depending on the size of a family). If we install it in a communal area, then the number of people will be greater.

Large Hand Pump
This is a ‘communal’ hand pump and can extract water from depths of up to 130 feet. It is known for its durability and suitability for rural areas and is usually installed in middle of the small villages so at least 10 or more families can benefit from it.

With a Small Hand Pump, the number of people who benefit varies depending on the location i.e. if we install it in the home of a needy family then the number of people will be 5 to 7 (depending on the size of a family) but if we install it in a communal area, then the numbers of people will be far greater.

This depends on how well the pump is maintained and looked after by the recipients. If well maintained, a hand pump can typically last for 7 years or more.

Yes, and this is an excellent Sadaqah Jariyah too. Prophet Muhammad (saw) advised that giving water is the best charity. With each hand pump we install there is space for you to put a name on the plaque (maximum 25 characters) and you can put the name of a loved one on it if you wish.

NB To avoid any desecration, Ayahs from the Qur’an, Allah’s Names/Attributes or Hadiths are not allowed. If no name for a water well is given in the ‘notes’ of the donation, we use the name of donor on account.

A Small Water Well is a ‘communal’ facility and can extract water from depths of between 150 feet and 180 feet. It has a manually operated large ‘hand pump’ which requires physical effort to pump water from the well – the flow rate depends on the users effort. It is known for its durability and suitability for rural areas, it is usually installed in middle of the villages so that the whole village can benefit from it.

Yes, we will send you a copy of a personalised report which will include the exact location of your installation.

The report will also include pictures of your installation with a name plaque and some of those benefiting from it in the local community.

Unfortunately, to save on costs, people that part donate towards a pump/well (which can sometimes be anything from 10 to 30 people or more) will not receive a report.

Yes. However, we require at least a month’s written notification (this can be emailed) prior to your visit. You will also need to fulfil the requirements in our ‘safeguarding’ policy. Once verified, our local team members can liaise and get permission from the local community and arrange logistics and security beforehand to be able to take you to the installation. There may be costs involved but you will be notified of these beforehand.

Yes. As the hand pumps are built inside a family home and thus are owned by that family, you can donate your Zakat towards this project.

Yes. As the wells are built in villages where Zakat is applicable, you can donate your Zakat towards this project.
